Harriet Bishop Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Meeting

Thursday, May 15, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

 Minutes

1. Welcome and Call Meeting to Order (Liz)
2. Introductions- – Liz, Celeste, Rachael, Sam, Ann, Nikea, Henry (boyscout)
3. Old Business

1. Approve April 2025 meeting minutes (Found at hbpto.net/blog)- Liz motions, Sam seconds

1. Staff Appreciation Week – Recap- grade level sponsorship had mixed results. A few first grade families responded. Overall positive and went smoothly.
2. Spring Bike/Walk/Ride to School – Recap- need more breakfast snacks. Remind kids to only take one. Look at schedule
3. May Family Fun Night – Recap- maybe 15 extra pizzas? Could do ice cream, shift outside, movie backup. Shift popcorn out of sight? Pre-pop?
4. Restaurant Fundraisers- could still squeeze one in? Jersey Mikes
5. Grade Level Initiative 

1. Staff Appreciation Week / 1st Grade Volunteers – Recap
2. Moving Forward- increase communication. Could pass out flyers at Meet Your Teacher night. Need to get 3rd grade early since they are hornet hop.

1. Board Elections: 2025-2026 Board Ballot–  Heather as Volunteer Coordinator, Celeste as Vice President.
2. Treasurer Update (Sam) – not time to approve next year’s budget. Waiting for all expenses to come in. Netted positive on Twins game, yearbook payments coming in, 5th grade send off coming up. Doing ok, about $50K budget. Field trips mostly done, except Biz Town. Sam will follow up with outstanding expenses.

1. Weekly newsletters replacing monthly newsletters- submit by Thursday for Friday weekly messages. How do we get things on text message? Could be useful for Restaurant fundraiser. Would Monday or Sunday night be better timing? No June newsletter. Could do a year end recap/thank you. Reminder of board positions.
2. Boy Scout Project- maintenance (low maintenance), proposal to add garden screening to our outdoor classroom, budgeted $500. Suggestions to reach out to Gertens, Pahls, Master Gardeners for potential discounts/donations/advice – Liz motions to approve, Sam seconds.
3. Thank you card- PDF for businesses who donated to Teacher appreciation

Upcoming School and PTO Events/Key Dates

• • Summer Board Meeting: July 24th, location tbd- just for board, will schedule further out. Plus financial meeting in August 21st. Meet your teacher is august 28, first day of school September 2nd.
  • June 5: Last Day of School & The Wave at 3:45pm
